Experience with the Covid Test!

Updated: Jan 27, 2022

So some time ago, I had been to my hometown and due to the increase in Covid cases in Bangalore, my classes were made online due to which I stayed back. Yea!! On Monday night, I was all planned to travel back, my bag was packed, snacks were packed and everything was ready but at 8 o’clock, my college announces for the online classes. So whatever I had planned and packed along with my ticket money went waste!!

Being at home is a different feeling. Good hot food, those evening games and talk with parents, those little fights etc. I was totally enjoying it, until I got a mail from the college saying about the new arrangements and they had asked us to get Corona Test for the offline classes. That was when I had to go out from home to get tested.

By 11 in the morning next day I started to the Government Hospital of our area to get both, RAT and RTPCR tests done. The thought of government hospital leaves us with unclean, messed up place but to my surprise this place was neatly maintained and they had arranged it quite efficiently. I had to wait until the doctors came after I got my token. After some time, the doctor arrived and asked me to sit on the wooden bench. Once I sat, the procedure started which was quite simple. He first pushed the swab deep into my right nostril. It happened so quickly that I took few seconds to recognise what was actually happening. Then that weird expression came out from me. Then he put it into a small test tube kind of jar and kept aside.

He then tested the same with Amma giving me some time to relax. Then came the 2nd test which was for RTPCR, where he pushed the second swab into my left nostril first and then my throat. Within seconds my whole life came in front of my eyes. I sneezed and coughed and my eyes watered for the next 10 minutes. Seeing my Amma also feel the same gave me a bit of relief.

Then we had to wait to receive the reports. As we were waiting for the reports, we saw many kinds of people in the hospital which made me feel lucky enough to be healthy. Then in 20 minutes, the doctor had produced our RAT Report which was my ticket back to the college.

This experience changed 2 of my views; 1. about the government hospitals, its staff and facilities and 2. about how corona has affected our lives.

Corona has given us all a hard time, so has its test.

We can blame every other person who is on the street, the police, the hospitals, the government. But only we can save ourselves from this deadly disease.

Only if we take care of us and our people, we can fight over this. We have to change our perspective and our techniques to deal with the pandemic by minimising our contacts with the outside world.

Due to this pandemic, my respect towards police, doctors and nurses, and every person who have been directly and indirectly contributing towards the wellbeing against this disease, has increased a lot.

We have learnt a lot from this pandemic.

We learnt how lucky we are having a roof above our head, 3 times meal and a family to be with.

We learnt how difficult it is to live without socialising (to extroverts; introverts have quite enjoyed being in their world).

We learnt the value of our time.

We learnt how hard it is to always be on the gadgets and how the outdoor games were good.

We are still learning a lot this year, we lost a lot this year.

If we need one reason to be happy about our life right now, it is that we survived in this pandemic all healthy and strong. 🙂

(PANDEMIC IS NOT OVER YET, WE NEED TO BE MORE CAUTIOUS THIS TIME)

That is it for the week.

Cheerios!

Until next time!!

P.S: By the way, thankfully our results were Negative..!!
